‘Hunger Games’ races to front, while dark horses ‘John Carter’ and ‘Dark Shadows’ also show promise in 2012 tourney.

It’s the brawl to win it all!

On Tuesday, we launched MTV Movie Brawl 2012, a winner-take-all tournament to pick this year’s must-see movie. Starting with 32 films in an epic “play-in” round to pick 16 flicks that will make it into our March Madness-style bracket, the Brawl has kicked off with fans giving it 110 percent, determined to leave it all out on the field, and ready to step up and make plays.

This is what the playoffs are all about. As MTV News’ team of analysts pointed out at the start of the tourney, there are three front-runners at this early point in the competition: “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” “The Hunger Games” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” So far, two of those flicks are living up to expectations, while one is going to have a lot of questions to answer if it can’t turn things around.

“Breaking Dawn” has staked out an early lead and has got to be an odds-on favorite to secure a #1 seed when the 16-team bracket is chosen at the end of this first round. Hunger Games has got its game face on and is trailing close behind; a number-one seed for this rookie sensation seems like a lock. “Dark Knight Rises,” however, is not showing the determination and drive we’d expect from a film with such ravenous fans. Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie has settled into the #6 slot thus far and will have to pick up the slack if it expects to head into the bracket with any sort of momentum.

Voting in round one is open in MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Films that have been flexing some unexpected Movie Brawl muscle include “John Carter” and “Dark Shadows.” The former hits theaters in March, the latter in May; what they both have in common are fans coming out of the woodwork to support their underdogs and turn them into dark horses. Meanwhile, no one who’s been paying attention to the cinematic landscape should be surprised that “Snow White and the Huntsman” has been playing like a savvy vet, given that the film is led by Kristen Stewart. Veteran leadership, especially from “Twilight” stars, is going to prove a key factor as the Brawl moves forward.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are a few films that are going to have to look themselves in the mirror and ask if they truly want to be in this competition. “Skyfall” and “The Amazing Spider-Man,” for instance, are both floundering in the back of the pack. Unless fans step up and vote for Bond and Spidey, these films are looking at an early trip home and months of second-guessing. And while we don’t expect high-brow fare like Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” to be able to tussle with the big franchises, we were hoping for more from QT fans than a first-round exit.

So that’s where we stand on the second day of the competition. Anything can happen at this point. Seriously. That’s why we’ve just introduced a wild-card round in which fans will be able to add a few movies that didn’t make the original 32 — Robert Pattinson’s “Cosmopolis”? Emma Watson’s “Perks of Being a Wallflower”? — and, if they deliver enough votes, slip them into the 16-movie bracket.

Voting in the first round closes Sunday, January 8, and the bracket kicks off on Monday, January 9.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Team order rule needs a re-think

Jean Todt arives for Wednesday’s hearing © Getty Images

Formula One should look at abolishing the controversial ban on team orders after Ferrari escaped further punishment for their manipulation of the German Grand Prix result. That is the view of the Daily Telegraph?s Tom Cary, who is of the opinion that the team orders rule now needs to be seriously looked at because of its obvious shortcomings.

?Whether you are for or against team orders, if the FIA could not back up its own rules and nail a competitor in a blatant case such as this the rule really does need reviewing. Perhaps Ferrari?s thinly-veiled threat to take the matter to the civil courts if they were punished too harshly scared the governing body, who as much as admitted the flimsiness of its rule.”

Paul Weaver, reporting for the Guardian in Monza, was in favour of the ruling which keeps alive Ferrari?s slim chances in an enthralling championship.

?The World Motor Sport Council was right not to ruin a compelling Formula One season by taking away the 25 points Alonso collected in Germany. That would have put him out of the five-man title race. But the council was widely expected to increase the fine and possibly deduct points from the team, as opposed to the individual. In the end, it could be argued that common sense prevailed. But the decision will dismay those who were upset by the way Ferrari handled the situation as much as anything else.?

The Daily Mail’s Jonathan McEvoy expressed outrage at the FIA tearing up its own rule book by allowing Ferrari to escape unpunished.

“Although the race stewards fined them £65,000 for giving team orders in July, the FIA World Motor Sport Council, to whom the matter was referred, decided not to impose any further punishment. It leaves the sport’s rulers open to derision. It was, after all, their rule they undermined. In a statement, the WMSC said the regulation banning team orders ‘should be reviewed’.”

Chevrolet Camaro GT3 by Sareni United

The Chevrolet Camaro is a relative newbie in the world of GT3 racing, but ever since the fifth-generation model was revealed a few years ago, a lot of racing teams have gone to battle with the American muscle car.

With the new year still on the horizon, a lot of teams have begun their preparations leading up to the 2012 season. One in particular, German-based YACO Racing, is hard-at-work preparing their version of the Camaro GT3 race cars that were built by Sareni United.

With the Sareni-built Camaro GT3, YACO Racing is preparing their race cars to compete in a number of GT3 race series in the coming year, including that of the German ADAC GT Master series and GT3 European Championship. Since the car is being prepped for racing, the overall set-up has been completely modified for the occasion. One look at the Camaro and you’ll notice a number of changes being made, including the use of a new front bumper design, an enormous rear spoiler, and a refurbished interior, complete with all the necessary elements – race seats, roll cage, etc. – for a GT3 race car.

Another thing about this particular Camaro GT3 race car is the involvement of SaReni United, which is owned by Reiter Engineering and who introduced their own version of a Camaro GT3 racer about a year ago that YACO Racing will be using for the 2012 season.

Performance details on the Sareni Camaro GT3 center around a 7.9-liter Katech V8 engine rated at up to 650 horsepower and 627 lb/ft of torque with lap times similar to the Gallardo LP600+ GT3, which incidentally, is another one of Reiter Engineering’s creations. This engine is mated to a newly designed HOLINGER gear box with paddle shifters located on the steering wheel.

Elizabeth Banks admits surrogacy was a ?big leap? of faith

The ’30 Rock’ star became a first-time mother to nine-month-old son Felix – who she raises with husband Max Handelman – thanks to a gestational surrogate and the couple are delighted with the results, despite finding the initial choice whether or not to go through the process anything but easy. CBP!!!!……1 week = How many models????

I needed to get some of my models out of the closet and onto the shelves.  After looking at what i had, i wondered how far i could really push myself and how many i could get done…….IN A 1 WEEK PERIOD OF TIME!!!.

I was actually surprised on how many i got done.  I was able to empty my closet of 13 models.  Some of the them are just simple snap togethers, some are pretty detailed and some are just out of the ordinary.  None of the models have any wiring or extensive detailing.  They were just fun builds to get away from the stress and grind of doing contest perfect, full detailed models. All of them have been painted the way they were suppose to be, and i tried to add little details that wouldnt take forever to do (eg: parachute cords on dragster).  So….

Heres my challenge.  See how many models you can build in 1 week period of time.  Now remember, dont have to do any contest quality stuff here…….no wiring (unless you think you can pull out 3-4 in a week)…..you can even go and just paint the chassis and interior black if you wish……but try to have the outside looking good.  Do whatever you want…….street rods, customs, drag, stock…….doesnt matter…….just see how many you can get done.  The time limit for this is 6 months from now……..April 16th 2012.  Now, you dont have to start this week……..or even a week next month………just as long as it takes you a week in that 6 month period of time.  No need to show in progress photos……and if you want to post them one at a time as you finish, that is fine.  But do post up a group picture at the end of the week you choose.  And by the way……it has to be a full week…….NOT like 3 days this week……2 days next week…..2 days the next week……………………..it has to be a continous 7 days.

The models i built in this picture went from 1 sunday to the next sunday.

The models in the pic are………

A skeleton (for mom), a Galaxie trailer, Grave Digger (snap together), a wooden car, The Orange Hauler show car, Pie Wagon show car, Ice Cream Truck show car, Tom McEwen Dragster (with parachute cords), Two Much double engine dragster, Monkee Mobile (for mom), a caricature Willys pickup, a clear Dale Earnhardt Nascar (half painted black, for mom), and a motorized jeep.

Have fun with this CBP……this could get interesting.  Go and clean out some of your collection.

Britney Spears ‘In A Good Place,’ Kevin Federline Says1676192

K-Fed says he’s ‘totally happy’ for his ex-wife as pop star celebrates engagement in Las Vegas.

Britney Spears spent the weekend celebrating her engagement to Jason Trawick in Las Vegas with friends and family. On Friday, hours after the news of their impending marriage was confirmed, the singer took to her Facebook page to make it official, changing her relationship status to “engaged.”

She also shared with her fans on Twitter just how excited she is to be tying the knot with longtime boyfriend Trawick. “Still glowing!” she wrote. “About to jump on a plane to Planet Hollywood in Vegas. Throwing a Bday Party for Jason at Chateau Night Club. So fun. Xxoo. And celebrate they did. People.com reported that the couple and her two sons checked into Planet Hollywood before making their first public appearance since the news broke. Spears rocked not only a body-hugging Hervé Léger bandage dress, but also her Neil Lane engagement ring. The couple shared dinner and dancing at two Sin City hotspots, Sugar Factory’s Chocolate Lounge and Paris’ Chateau Nightclub. “Tonight was one of the most magical nights of my life,” she later wrote on Twitter. “Such an amazing time with my new fiance and our closest friends and family. #Blessed” While Spears was celebrating, her ex-husband Kevin Federline sent out his well-wishes. “I’m really happy for her — I think he’s a great guy,” he told TV Week magazine while filming the reality show “Excess Baggage” in Australia. “She’s happy; she’s doing really well. I want to say she’s in a good place. I haven’t spoken to her much since I’ve been over here, both of us have been busy with her being on tour, but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids’ teachers that they’re doing really good. It’s a good step in the right direction. I’m totally happy for her.” And Federline doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings toward Trawick. “He’s a really good guy, I’ve heard a lot about him,” he added. “I’ve spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him [and] her family loves him.”

Share your well-wishes for Britney and Jason in the comments!

Justin Bieber Has ‘It,’ Mark Wahlberg Says1676492

‘I’m pretty intuitive,’ actor tells MTV News about why he wanted to work with the pop star on an upcoming basketball-themed drama.

Mark Wahlberg surprised movie fans everywhere when he announced plans to hook up with Justin Bieber on the big screen. But when MTV News caught up with the “Contraband” star recently, he explained why he wanted to work with the teen phenom on the basketball-themed drama.

“Intuition. I’m pretty intuitive,” he said of why he thinks shooting a film with the pop star is the right choice. “I see the guy and spent time with him, and you see what he does and how he does it, and then you actually have a conversation with him, and it’s there.” Of course, if it doesn’t come easily to the rookie actor, Wahlberg has a backup plan: “It’s there — and if not, I will extract it.” When MTV News caught up with Wahlberg and Bieber earlier this year at the MTV Movie Awards, they opened up a bit more about the in-the-works flick. “Wait till you see me and Bieber in the flick. Think of, like, ‘The Color of Money,’ ” Wahlberg said of his “old guy” role. “So I get this call from Paramount [with a story about] an old guy and a young guy. I’m like, ‘Cool, let’s get Jack [Nicholson]. Let’s get Robert De Niro. Let’s get Robert Duvall.’ And they go, ‘What about Garrett Hedlund?’ I’m like, ‘For what?’ ” he further recalled. “They’re like, ‘For the young guy.’ ”

Bieber, who previously appeared on the big screen in his 3-D concert flick “Never Say Never,” said he hopes to be on a film set by sometime next summer. And while he kept his plans hush-hush, he added that his team is “working on the script.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com.

Are Justin Timberlake And Jessica Biel Engaged?

While Us Weekly says Timberlake proposed last month, neither of the stars’ reps has commented on the report.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Wednesday (January 4), the Internet was abuzz after a report that Justin Timberlake had proposed to longtime girlfriend Jessica Biel.

While there had been some chatter about a possible engagement before the holidays, the rumor mill went into overdrive when sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple had gotten engaged in late December.

While neither of the stars’ reps has commented on the report, Us says the singer/actor asked Biel to marry him while vacationing in Jackson, Wyoming. “Justin knows how much she loves snowboarding and the mountains, so it was the perfect place,” the source said of the reported proposal.

The couple, who began dating in 2007, broke up briefly in early 2011, weeks after they attended Oscar parties together. According to the Us source, “When they reunited, they had a conversation about taking the next step.” Another source close to the singer said he’s “never been happier” and that “he knew it was the right time to propose.”

At the time of their March 2011 split, a rep explained, “Addressing the media speculation regarding Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s relationship, we are confirming that they mutually have decided to part ways. The two remain friends and continue to hold the highest level of love and respect for each other.”

While the two got together again shortly after the breakup, they have always been plagued by speculation about their relationship, whether it be that they are breaking up or getting married.

When asked about having to deal with all the attention, Biel told Vogue in 2012, “I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t feel the need to clear anything up. It’s the most precious thing that I have in my life, and I care about it so much that I don’t care about what anyone says or thinks. I have just not addressed it in any real way, and I’m not going to. It’s mine. And I really like that about it.”

The news of his engagement comes weeks after Timberlake’s former flame Britney Spears announced her engagement to longtime beau Jason Trawick.

Adele Starts 2012 Topping Billboard Albums Chart Once Again

Her 21, which debuted nearly a year ago, sold more than 144,000 copies.

New year, same story: Adele‘s unstoppable 21 sold more than 144,000 copies to claim the top spot on the first Billboard albums chart of 2012, easily outpacing Drake‘s Take Care, which landed at #2 with sales of nearly 72,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As it approaches the one-year anniversary of its release, 21 — which was 2011′s biggest seller by a huge margin — shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, with this week’s numbers, it has now sold some 5.8 million copies in the U.S., making it the best-selling album since Usher’s massive Confessions, which moved 7.9 million copies in 2004.

Young Jeezy‘s TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition holds strong at #3 on this week’s chart, selling more than 67,000 copies in its second week. Lady Antebellum‘s Own the Night is up next at #4 with sales of nearly 54,000 copies. And buoyed by the chart-topping success of single “Sexy and I Know It,” LMFAO‘s Sorry for Party Rocking leaps from #16 all the way up to #5.

Florence and the Machine‘s Ceremonials (sales of more than 47,000 copies), the Black KeysEl Camino (more than 45,000), Coldplay‘s Mylo Xyloto (more than 44,000), Rihanna‘s Talk That Talk (more than 42,000) and the 40th installment of the ubiquitous Now collection (more than 41,000) round out the top 10.

The week’s biggest debut belongs to Skrillex, whose new Bangarang EP opens at #19, with sales of nearly 24,000 copies. The Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” soundtrack makes its chart debut at #44, selling more than 14,000 copies. And, in a true sign that the holidays are officially over, Canadian crooner Michael Bublé‘s Christmas — which had topped the Billboard charts for the past two weeks — drops all the way down to #24, selling some 20,000 copies. ‘Tis the season no longer.

Adele’s 21 was also the top seller on iTunes, followed by Own the Night and Ceremonials. “Sexy and I Know It” was the best-selling song, beating out #2 “We Found Love” by Rihanna and Bruno Mars‘ “It Will Rain.”

With a Little Luck: A Novel

My good friend Caprice Crane’s new book, With a Little Luck, is out today. Yay, Caprice!

It’s gotten great reviews:

“Crane is one of the funniest writers of popular fiction around. The dialog (inner and outer) is laugh-out-loud, snort-inducing hilarious . . . Readers will want to cross their fingers and spit while throwing salt over their shoulders if it helps Berry reach her dreams. Highly recommended.”

Library Journal

“Fans of Stacy Ballis and Cara Lockwood will appreciate Crane’s effortlessly funny style, which is often attempted in popular fiction but is rarely this well executed…Lighthearted and charmingly honest.”

—Booklist

“[A] satisfying romantic comedy…[with] real character growth.”

—Kirkus Reviews

And even better blurbs:

“Romantic, poignant and funny—this book is a lucky find for lit fans. Caprice Crane is a nimble and gifted storyteller.”

—Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno

“A hilarious romp that oozes charm and giddy fun. Caprice Crane is a true talent.”

—Molly Jong-Fast, author of The Social Climber’s Handbook

“Witty, fast-paced, and sheer fun. Caprice Crane is a master of dialogue. Half the time I was reading this book I was smiling, which made me look like a crazy person on the subway.”

—Jancee Dunn, author of Don’t You Forget About Me and Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?

“Absolutely charming and hilarious.”

—Missy Peregrym, star of the movie Stick It and ABC’s Rookie Blue

With a Little Luck scores in humor, head, and heart. In other words, it’s a perfect trifecta.”

—Karyn Bosnak, author of 20 Times a Lady (soon to be the major motion picture What’s Your Number?)

(Omg, who is that last fantastic blurber?) (I meant every word of it.)

And most importantly, she has the cutest dog ever (who likes to video chat with Bev):

Beyonce, Britney Spears And More: 25 Best Songs Of 20111675901

We count down the year’s most memorable musical moments, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

Britney Spears on the cover of “Till the World Ends”
Photo: Jive

In 2011, we shuffled and shook it out. We found love and decided to dance until the world ends. We rolled in the deep and celebrated the boys with the booming systems. Shoot, at one point, we even went to Paris with Will Ferrell. It was, to say the very least, an interesting 12 months.

So, how else to sum up the year than with my picks for the 25 Best Songs of 2011: odes to partying and pumped-up kicks, songs of sadness and beauty, tunes about getting loaded and getting revenge. Pop, hip-hop, rock, bed-tronica, they’re all here, and they’re all important in some way, mostly because they all helped guide us through a rather tumultuous time. But that’s enough from me, let’s get to the songs. Oh, and I’d like to hear your picks too — drop me a line in the comments below. So now, on with the countdown. 25. Nicola Roberts, “Beat of My Drum”: Supremely saccharine single from erstwhile Girls Aloud member mashes together every notable pop moment in recent history, yet somehow manages to be better that the sum of its parts. That’s thanks mostly to the supercharged, sing-a-long chorus, where the whole thing comes together in a head-spinning rush. She should go solo more often. 24. Against Me!, “Russian Spies”: Searing, surging punk from Gainesville lifers proves their time on Sire Records didn’t soften them one bit. It only made them more resolute. And, strangely, sadder too. 23. Kreayshawn, “Gucci Gucci”: Either the smartest song of 2011 or the dumbest, the beauty of “Gucci Gucci” — and Kreayshawn, for that matter — is that the answer is probably both. The goofy, horror-movie synth squiggle, the dollops of low-end whomp, the part where Kreay claims to have swag coming out her ovaries … it’s all good. Even if it’s not. 22. Gospel Music, “This Town Doesn’t Have Enough Bars for Both Of Us”: Peppy, poppy, pocket-rock that laments the lack of quality drinking establishments in Owen Holmes’ hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, and dares to ponder one of life’s great post-breakup quandaries: When does our place become just my place? He’s not smart enough to know the answer; instead, he spends his genius on barroom bon mots like, “I’m not drinking anymore/ But I’m not drinking any less.” Works for me. 21. Demi Lovato, “Skyscraper”: For about a week, this was the biggest song in the world (or the Internet), a fact that had nothing to do with irony, our nascent sense of superiority or kittens, and everything to do with the startling connection Lovato makes with the track itself. Oh, and the fact that she sings the absolute beejezus out of it. Given everything that’s happened in Lovato’s life, that connection makes sense, but it’s the maturity she shows on the song — and that final, chill-inducing chorus — that opened eyes, and served notice. Welcome to the club, Demi. 20. Lykke Li, “Get Some”: Overlooked, otherworldly single off Li’s equally overlooked (and otherworldly) Wounded Rhymes album, this one is very much about sex. Thumping, bumping, panting … and then Li pushes it all over the top with her smoldering, sumptuous vocals. The kind of song that requires a cigarette and a cold shower after repeat listens. 19. The Black Keys, “Lonely Boy”: After spending portions of their breakout Brothers album getting slightly contemplative, the Keys roar back with “Lonely Boy,” a song that only contemplates how best to make a guitar rev like a V-8 engine. A hard-charging, and even harder-chugging treat (with an equally hard-partying music video), it’s the kind of classic claptrap you always knew they were capable of making. 18. Chris Brown, “Beautiful People”: Folks can talk about Brown’s hip-hop turn on “Look at Me Now,” but this single represents his biggest reinvention to date. A slippery, shiny club track helmed by Benny Benassi, like most of Breezy’s work it is undeniably sexy, but it’s also subtly smart too. And that’s where he made his biggest strides. Also, unlike “Look at Me Now,” he doesn’t even mention Mr. Miyagi once. 17. YACHT, “Dystopia (The Earth Is on Fire)”: Every day the sky gets lower (lowerlowerlower!) And every day the flames get higher (higherhigherhigher!) So, with apologies to Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three, this disco duo just decide to let the motherf—er burn. 16. Washed Out, “Eyes be Closed”: Massively ebbing and echoing bed-tronica (or, you know, “chillwave”) from some dude in Perry, Georgia. Bonus: Sounds nothing like Perry, Georgia. 15. Lil Wayne, “6 Foot 7 Foot”: Weezy and producer Bangladesh may still hate each other (or maybe they’ve made up, I can’t remember), but there’s no denying that both men are better off together. “6 Foot” starts with Harry Belafonte’s “The Banana Boat Song,” then twists it into something else entirely. Knotty and slightly seizure-inducing, it’s like “A Milli” times, well, a million. 14. Nicki Minaj, “Super Bass”: The unlikely champion of the Summer Jam Sweepstakes, it started life almost as an afterthought (a bonus track on the Pink Friday deluxe edition) and ended up being Nicki’s breakthrough hit. Sometimes things just work out that way. Here’s to the guys with the booming systems. 13. LMFAO, “Party Rock Anthem”: It’s either the stoopidest song in recent memory, or perhaps LMFAO’s magnum opus (or maybe both), but why ponder points like that when the end result is this good. From its ebola-catchy hook to party-hearty machinations, this one is just begging to be blasted … and shuffled to. 12. Foster The People, “Pumped Up Kicks”: The year’s catchiest rock tune was actually last year‘s catchiest too — it just took folks a while to realize it. Hazy, loping and scratchy like a mohair sweater, it recalls a headier era when bands wrote ultra-hooky singles about ultra-dark things (Eels’ “Novocaine for the Soul,” the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Today,” etc.) and earned repeated spins on radio as a result. Also known as the 1990s. 11. Rihanna, “We Found Love”: A few weeks ago, someone told me that this would ultimately end up being Rihanna’s signature hit and, at the time, I sort of laughed him off. I mean, did he remember “Umbrella”? But, the more I think about it, he may be right. Or at least on the right track. From the icy synth strains to Calvin Harris’ hard-charging pre-chorus, it most certainly is the song that best represents pop, circa 2011, and given RiRi’s standing in the field, perhaps in time, it will become her set-closing number too. For now, at least, I’m content to bask in “Love’s” masterful mix of the carnal and, well, the club. 10. Britney Spears, “Till the World Ends”: I have been accused (many times) of being a Brit basher and, sure, that’s probably true, but not even I could deny this song. Super-charged star-burst synthesizers, robo-vocals and, of course, that iconic “Woah-Oh-Oh” chantalong, it’s the party jam for the post-apocalyptic future. And because of all that, it’s also an important song; not only a reminder that Britney is still capable of making truly terrific pop music, but that, really, she never stopped. And coming from one of her most ardent critics, that’s high praise indeed. 09. Beyoncé, “Love on Top”: You wanted a throwback jam, you’ve got a throwback jam. Big, bold, brassy and blissed-out, it represents everything B was going for on her 4 album, recalling roiling old R&B classics and the supreme diva-tude of the all-time greats. Sure, I could’ve gone for something like “Run the World (Girls)” or even “Countdown,” but “Love on Top” is where it all clicks, sublimely so. Joy for days, which, given our dire times, made this one an absolute lifesaver. Oh, and as is the case with all of her best tunes, Beyoncé belts here. And really, what else do you need? 08. Nickelback, “Bottoms Up”: Take away my cred card, but I am unapologetically in awe of this song. I wrote an entire column about its boozy brilliance earlier this year, but suffice to say, it is without a doubt the greatest thing Nickelback will ever do, in that they are first and foremost a party band, and this is their ultimate party jam: a song about getting supremely sh–faced, about drinking everything from Jim Beam to “straight gasoline,” complete with a crushing, ALL-CAPS chorus and appropriately chugging riffs. Oh, and at one point, Chad Kroeger rhymes “bar” with “fire,” mostly because he can. Hammer down, now and forever. 07. Bright Eyes, “The Ladder Song”: For as much noise as Conor Oberst is capable of making, it’s often the quieter moments where his rickety, ramshackle genius shines brightest. And “Ladder Song” — a heartbreakingly raw tribute to a friend who committed suicide — is not only his quietest, it’s one of his best. Backed by little more than a piano and a handful of otherworldly room tones, Oberst plumbs the depths of despair, his voice reedy and wavering, and, when he reaches bottom, discovers there are small beauties that make life worth living. It’s too bad, he ultimately laments, that his friend didn’t discover them too. The year’s most achingly beautiful song, by a hair-raising mile. 06. Drake, “Take Care”: There are no short

BMW M4 Coupe

The future of the BMW 3-Series has been altered significantly this past year, with the announcement of a new name for the coupe and convertible versions of the luxury car. From now on, these two variants will be sold under the 4-Series nomenclature, meaning that the M version will be sold as the M4.

We’ve only been able to see some spy shots of the 4-Series Coupe , but that doesn’t mean that we can’t put pen to paper to conjure up the look of the future M4 Coupe. For this we’ve taken BMW’s usual M-design elements like the front bumper, LED headlights, a wide track, and different side air intakes and added it to the 4-Series images.

What won’t be easily visible in this image is what’s found under the hood. The new BMW M4 will be dropping the usual V8 engine used in the M3 models and will replace it with a twin-turbocharged inline-six engine with an output of about 450 HP. This will allow the M4 to be both more powerful and more fuel efficient than that the M3.

Expect to see the new BMW M4 a few months after the 4-Series coupe set to be launched in 2013.

BMW M4 Coupe originally appeared on topspeed.com on Tuesday, 3 January 2012 17:00 EST.

Pill Says He Never Signed To Rick Ross’ Maybach Music

‘I ain’t got nothing against none of them, nobody,’ rapper tells MTV News of the label.
By Rob Markman

Pill has caused quite the stir. Last week, after the Atlanta rapper took to Twitter to vent about his label situation, speculation began to swirl that P-I-Double L was dropped from the Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Warner Bros. distributed-label. But seeing as Pill was never technically signed to MMG, that isn’t necessarily the case.

“I never signed any paperwork with Ross. It was just my deal was over at Warner already,” Pill revealed to MTV News Tuesday.

According to the “Trap Goin’ Ham” MC, he was signed to Asylum/Warner Bros. Records at the end of 2009, a year before Ross brought his MMG label over to Warner Music Group. Pill says he is unaware of any conversations that Warner and Ross ever had concerning his career, but started receiving calls from Rozay around this time last year. The calls turned into collaborations — many of which ended up on Self Made Vol. 1, Ross’ MMG label compilation album. It was alluded that Pill was officially a part of Rozay’s roster, along with Wale, Meek Mill and a host of other artists, but that wasn’t the case, the rapper says.

During his December 28 Twitter rant, Pill, who made a name for himself with independently released singles like “Ok Denn,” criticized Warner, charging that they didn’t give him the proper push on radio and television. “I bet u can name you favorite artist and the turn on the tv and see the video and hear it on the radio. It’s not rocket science,” he wrote.

Pill was particularly disappointed that “Pac Man,” his single from Self Made Vol.1 didn’t get a push, even after noted rappers 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti and Meek Mill were added to the song’s remix. “To have all that set in stone, I thought it would’ve been pushed a little bit harder, went a little bit further, but it didn’t,” he said.

Maybach did include Pill on a number of label-driven initiatives, he admits. He was on the October 2011 XXL magazine group cover, appeared on “RapFix Live” with MMG in May 2011 and took part in the pre-taped crew cypher during BET’s Hip Hop Awards but was noticeably absent when Ross, Wale and Meek Mill performed during the actual ceremony.

“I never really went on tour with them; I never really did anything with them,” Pill said. “The only time I performed on tour with them is when it stopped in Atlanta. They still showed love to a n—a when it was time to go to Vegas, or Cali, you know, whatever the label had put together for us to be on as a whole.”

Currently the rapper’s lawyers are attempting to dissolve the Warner contract, and as for MMG, Pill insists he harbors no ill will and is grateful for the exposure that Ross has given him — even though he doesn’t remember the last time he and the Bawse spoke. “I ain’t got nothing against none of them, nobody. It’s just the situation don’t work,” Pill said matter-of-factly. “It’s cool with us, I don’t got nothing against Ross either. It’s just I don’t talk to him.

“I ain’t really got too much to say to somebody that ain’t got too much to say to me. I’m not a brownnose, I ain’t a punk ass n—a and I’m not finna go trying to chase behind somebody that ain’t sayin’ nothing to me.”

Adam Lambert’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’: The Story Behind The Cover1610709

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for ‘American Idol’ rock night.
By Gil Kaufman

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That’s the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin‘s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, “Whole Lotta Love.” And that’s before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” That’s the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on “American Idol” rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, “Love” was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called “You Need Love,” which was penned by Dixon. For Zeppelin’s version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin’ Wolf, “Back Door Man” and “Shake For Me,” nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966′s “You Need Loving” from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin’s first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band’s only British single in 1997. Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his “You Need Love,” and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune — which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show “Top of the Pops” in the 1970s and ’80s — has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train’s Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane’s Addiction. Ron Paul Supporters Boost Kelly Clarkson’s Album Sales

Republican presidential hopeful even shouts out the singer in a speech leading up to the Iowa caucus.
By James Montgomery

Even as he continues to battle for votes in the final hours of the Iowa caucus, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is already a front-runner in another contest: the quest for celebrity endorsements.

Yes, in recent days, Paul has surged to the forefront of high-profile support, picking up the backing of singers Kelly Clarkson and Michelle Branch (both of whom subsequently felt the wrath of Paul’s detractors, though, hey, Clarkson may have gotten a sales bump out of it). But they’re just the latest in a list of seemingly disparate stars who have endorsed the candidate.

“Fear Factor” host/ UFC fanatic Joe Rogan has already gone on the record as saying he supports Paul’s candidacy, as has comedian Doug Stanhope and actor Vince Vaughn, who introduced him at a political conference in Nevada back in September. Staind frontman Aaron Lewis is also onboard.

In a speech Tuesday (January 3) at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa — given to an audience of young voters — Paul even mentioned Clarkson by name, asking the assembled students, “Does anybody here know the name Kelly Clarkson? … Recently, she endorsed me. … I had to admit, I didn’t know a whole lot about her, but I did know that our supporters were so enthusiastic about it they went out and bumped up sales of her record by 600 percent.”

MTV is on the scene in Iowa! Head to Iowa.MTV.com for all our Iowa caucus coverage, and stick with PowerOf12.org throughout the presidential election season to follow Andrew Jenks on the campaign trail.

Our Favorite Celebrity Couples Of 20111676487

From Britney and Jason to K-Stew and R-Pattz, we look back at the best high-profile pair-ups of the year.
By Jocelyn Vena

From young love to established romantic empires, 2011 was all about PDA. Some of La La Land’s most A-list couples weren’t shy about flaunting the love they share. From musicians to actors to everyone in between, the last 12 months were all about sharing the love. As the year winds down, MTV News is reflecting on some of our favorite couples of the year.

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
The couple walked red carpets, gave each other shout-outs at awards shows and even got naked together in Britney’s “Criminal” video, but it wasn’t until December that they decided to make it official. After two years of dating, Spears and Trawick took their relationship to the next level, with confirmation that Jason put a ring on it. The pair celebrated their love and their impending nuptials in Las Vegas. Their engagement sparked headlines and left Spears “glowing.” Who is your top couple of 2011? Vote in our Newsroom poll! Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Summing up Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez‘s year into a little blurb isn’t that easy. They went to events together, and Bieber lavishly rented the Staples Center just to watch “Titanic.” And when they weren’t chilling out, they were giving shine to each other’s hard work. Or bringing each other gifts. Remember when Bieber showed Selena his pet snake, Johnson, at the VMAs? Yes, we knew you wouldn’t forget. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
The two “Twilight” stars seem poised to make our favorite couples lists for years to come. While in years past, they’ve remained under the radar, this year they came out of their shell and opened up about one another in interviews. Who could forget the time that K-Stew referred to her not-so-mysterious “English” boyfriend in an interview? We’re assuming not R-Pattz.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z
OK, so Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for, like, an eternity, but it wasn’t until this year that the pair really had everyone buzzing. When Beyoncé stepped out at the VMAs, her expanding midsection and flashy performance was the ultimate pregnancy announcement. Jay-Z didn’t seem to mind all the attention. He celebrated the baby news in the audience with his pal Kanye West. Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose
Amber Rose rebounded from her relationship with Kanye West by falling in love with Wiz Khalifa. The couple took the world on their wild relationship ride, from doing interviews together to sparking rumors that they had tied the knot. These two kept everyone talking and they don’t seem to mind the attention, or spending lots of time with one another. Did we forget your favorite couple of 2011? Let us know on Facebook!

‘Mission: Impossible’ Still #1 In 2012

‘Ghost Protocol,’ the fourth ‘M:I’ movie, made $134 million in 17 days.

Tom Cruise’s domination of the holidays continued as “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” remained the #1 movie at the box office, taking in $31.3 million over the New Year’s weekend. The fourth entry in the action franchise made an estimated $134 million in just 17 days, which is about what “Mission: Impossible III” made during its entire theatrical run.

“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” was the runner-up in the box office race, collecting $22.1 million during its second weekend in theaters for $132.1 million total. Robert Downey Jr.’s second outing as the famous detective of classic literature carried an estimated production budget of $90 million.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,” the third movie in the series, came in third on the New Year’s box office scorecard. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” jumped 45 percent from last weekend with $18.3 million for a $94.6 million total, which is about $45 million behind where the first “Alvin and the Chipmunks” stood at the same point in its run.

Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” was in a close race for the #4 spot with David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” “War Horse” took in an estimated $16.4 million (for a $42.9 million total) while “Dragon Tattoo” earned another $16.8 million, which was a 16 percent increase from the weekend before. The first American adaptation of the popular Swedish novel has made a total of $57.1 million. Filmmaker Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought a Zoo” was #5 with $14.3 million for a $41.8 million total.

Garry Marshall’s critically reviled ensemble rom-com “New Year’s Eve” doubled its previous weekend, thanks no doubt to the arrival of the holiday for which it’s named. The follow-up to “Valentine’s Day” has made just $46.4 million since its release, however, and 93 percent of film critics panned the flick, according to film review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Looking back at the 2011 box office, the final “Harry Potter” film was #1 overall with its $381 million gross. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” was just behind with $352.3 million. Rounding out the top five were “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ ($275.4 million), “The Hangover Part II” ($254.4 million) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” ($241 million).

Check out everything we’ve got on “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

Justin Bieber’s Snake To Lady Gaga’s Egg: 2011 Red-Carpet Highlights1676575

Beyonce’s baby bump was one of the year’s most-memorable moments.

Anything can happen on the red carpet at any given awards show, and in 2011, it felt like anything that could happen did. As MTV News reflects on some of the biggest moments of the year, we decided to remember some of the most-memorable things A-listers did live right in front of us all.

Lady Gaga’s Egg
In February, Gaga had everyone guessing how she would arrive to the Grammys. Given her penchant for crazy looks, no one would have guessed she would have showed up in an egg. Designed by Hussein Chalayan, Gaga later emerged from the structure to proclaim that she was “Born This Way.” What was your favorite red-carpet moment of 2011? Vote in our Newsroom poll! Snooki
Speaking of the Grammys, the reality star joined MTV News’ own Sway Calloway to talk to all the stars at the show. After helping us out on the 2010 red carpet, we learned that anything is possible with Snooki, and 2011 solidified that she’s the fieriest “meatball” to grace the “Jersey Shore.” We wonder if she and Bruno Mars ever ended up dating. Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed
“Twilight” star Nikki Reed surprised everyone when she hit up the MTV Movie Awards in June. No, she hadn’t borrowed Gaga’s egg: She was rocking an engagement rock from her beau and “American Idol” alum Paul McDonald. The couple used the red carpet as the platform to announce their engagement, and married in October. Beyoncé’s Baby Bump
She might have rubbed that burgeoning baby bump onstage at the Video Music Awards in August, but hours before she took the stage, donning a bright orange gown, Beyoncé let the paparazzi know she was expecting her first child with hubby Jay-Z by flaunting her pregnancy glow. Justin Bieber’s Snake
While Beyoncé shared with the world her baby news, Bieber not only planted a kiss on VMA pre-show host and real-life lady love Selena Gomez, but also introduced her to his pet snake. His name? Johnson. She seemed less interested in the snake than perhaps he would have liked. What was your favorite red-carpet moment in 2011? Share your pick below!

12 Best Christmas Pop Songs Of All Time1676456

Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey make our list of yuletide favorites.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber

Looking for some inspiration for Christmas-themed music? Well, don’t worry, MTV News has wrapped up a special holiday playlist so that you can get into the spirit of the season. Grab a glass of eggnog, put on your best reindeer sweater and snuggle up by the fire with these choice tunes. “Mistletoe,” Justin Bieber
Bieber’s modern-day missive (released in 2011 off of Under the Mistletoe) about kissing under the mistletoe certainly harks back to carols of days gone by, but he updates the narrative using his own fly-boy language, referring to his girl as his “shawty.” Awww!

“All I Want for Christmas Is You,” Mariah Carey
Perhaps the most ubiquitous pop song of the last 20 years, Carey’s iconic single may have been reimagined by Bieber, but it will forever be associated with Carey, her skimpy Santa suit and her desire to be reunited with her boy. “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” *NSYNC
Spunky and funky, *NSYNC’s 1998 track is all about getting together with your friends and family and wishing them “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” — a fitting sentiment for folks of all persuasions. “My Only Wish (This Year),” Britney Spears
Like Carey before her, Britney uses her sugary sweet, incredibly innocent ode to the holidays to pine away for the one thing she hopes Santa can get her: her one true love. “Last Christmas,” Wham!
George Michael had one message for that ex-special someone: This year, to save him from tears, he’ll give his heart to someone special. After it was released, the song immediately became a Christmas staple with radio and local malls playing it endlessly through the season. “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Band Aid
While many Christmas songs focus on chestnuts roasting on an open fire, 1984′s A-list-filled charity single reminded the world that not everyone has chestnuts or an open fire. “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town,” Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
This song had already been recorded and re-recorded, but when Springsteen put his Jersey sass on the Christmas classic, it became the type of jovial, rocked-out tune cool enough to top the lists of his fans. “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” U2
Darlene Love may have recorded the track in 1963, but Bono and his boys put their own spin on the song when they released it in 1987. It’s all about wanting your baby to come home to you on Christmas. And, really, who doesn’t want that? “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson
In a world where these two are still together, it would actually be a cute idea to have this real-life couple sing about wanting to stay warm with one another on a chilly winter night. “Don’t Shoot Me Santa,” The Killers
Every Christmas playlist needs a kooky take on the holidays, and the Las Vegas band’s spin on pleading with Santa to cut them a break is a bit country, a bit rock and roll, and all fun. See also: Blink-182′s “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas.” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” Michael Bublé
Bublé’s Christmas album has been sitting at the top of the charts for weeks, and this particularly stirring Christmas ballad is all about making sure you’re with the people you love for the holidays. “Santa Baby,” Madonna
Cooing and gushing about what she wants from her Santa Baby for Christmas is an incredibly decadent idea full of incredibly lavish gift ideas. Pretend like there’s no recession, blast this one and imagine a world where cars and jewels are totally affordable Christmas gifts. Which is your favorite Christmas pop song? Tell us in the comments!

Ferrari have apparently proceeded to a second name tweak for their 2011 F1 challenger, following the controversy surrounding the initial designation of the car back in January. According to the ?Horse Whisperer? column ? an online interface commonly used by Ferrari to share its likes and dislikes with the world ? the new name of the racer will be Ferrari 150° Italia.

?It might seem like a Kafkaesque scenario, but the affair relating to the name of the car with which Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will tackle this year’s Formula 1 World Championship saw its final and decisive episode played out these past few days with the concomitant withdrawal by Ford of the summons. Therefore common sense has prevailed,? wrote the columnist.

The car?s initial name was Ferrari F150, but in mid-February was changed to F150th Italia as a result of the legal proceedings issued by American carmaker Ford to the US District Court in Detroit.

This situation occurred because Ferrari?s car name and logo resembled Ford?s trademark for their line of pick-up trucks, the famous F-150. A couple of days back, Ford announced it has filed a notice with the US court for dismissal of the case, after it had reached an amicable agreement with their Italian counterparts.

In order to avoid the slightest risk of anyone confusing a Formula 1 car with a pick-up truck, for their part, the men from Maranello have decided that the car will lose the F that precedes the number 150 and which stands for Ferrari, as it has done on numerous occasions when it’s come to giving a car a code name, be it for the race track or the road

It appears that this could have caused so much confusion in the minds of the consumer across the Pond that, at the same time as losing the F, the name will be completely Italianised, replacing the English ‘th’ with the equivalent Italian symbol.

Therefore the name will now read as the Ferrari 150° Italia, which should make it clear even to the thickest of people that the name of the car is a tribute to the anniversary of the unification of our country.

Let’s hope the matter is now definitely closed and that we can concentrate on more serious matters, namely ensuring that our car that already seems to be pretty good out of the box, becomes a real winner.

What kind of wedding gift do you give the royal couple who has everything? The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is on Friday (April 29), so MTV News reached out to some of our favorite Hollywood celebrities — from Ke$ha to Adam Lambert. Fortunately, they had some solid ideas!

“I haven’t met them, so it would be kind of awkward,” the “Tik Tok” singer admitted to MTV News. “I might paint them something. Maybe I’ll paint them a guitar.” Like Ke$ha, other celebs had suggestions that were from the heart, even if they weren’t the most practical. “I will go out on a limb and say these two individuals maybe haven’t had Uncrustables before in their life. I would get them a strawberry Uncrustable,” Mike Posner said about the pastry. David Cook followed up on the all-American food idea. “I feel like they have everything except maybe they probably don’t have an Applebee’s gift card. I’ll go [with an] Applebee’s gift card,” the “American Idol” alum said. Other stars said they’d gift the British prince and soon-to-be-princess with an item they were personally best known for. “I’d probably buy William some eyeliner,” Lambert said. “He could do that, he could rock that look. I think.” Ne-Yo was more empathetic, saying he would give gifts that could help shield them from photographers and blend in with everyday people. “Three years’ supply of sunglasses. Yeah, put them on. A bunch of baseball caps, throw those on, and try to move around like regular people,” the singer said. “I can’t imagine what it would be like having to live under that big of a magnifying glass your whole life … and fake mustaches, that’s what I’d give them.” Brooke Burke went the more traditional route, saying she would get Will and Kate a journal to record the big event. “I would ask them to really take the time to write down thoughts and phrases and wishes,” Burke said. “And not really to lose sight of how they feel about each other now and to really hold on to that feeling.” Kathy Griffin had good intentions but the comedian couldn’t resist a puke joke. “If I had to get the royal couple a gift, I would get them the Royal Couple Vomit Bag, which someone sent me a photo of,” Griffin told us. “So you can actually buy vomit bags with their image on it, and I think that that is an honor and I hope that they see it as such.” What would you give to William and Kate? Share your ideas in the comments section!
